Ναυπηγημένο μόλις το 1939, από το ναυπηγείο Bonnin στο Lormont της Γαλλίας λίγο πριν τον Β' Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο, σχεδιάστηκε από τον Francois Camatte, έναν αυτοδίδακτο σχεδιαστή και κατασκευαστή, διάσημο για το ταλέντο του. Με μήκος 10,96 μέτρα, πλάτος 1,86 μέτρα και βύθισμα 1,68 μέτρα, σύμφωνα με την κατάταξή του στην κλάση του, το Fou είναι έτοιμο να σας προσφέρει πολύ περισσότερη συγκίνηση, πραγματική δράση και χαρά στη θάλασσα. It is the oldest Olympic sailing class; Olympic sailing took place from 1908 until the early 1960s. The 6-meters were even used for a period for the famous America's Cup. For the past two years, we have breathed new life into the Dutch 6-meter club; 10 boats were traced, and races have been organized in the Netherlands again for the past two years. At the recent World Championships, there were as many as sixty boats of many different nationalities, divided into two classes (classic up to 1960 and modern), on the starting line in Vancouver, Canada. Le Fou was designed by Francois Camatte, built by the Bonnin shipyard in Lormont, France, and launched in 1939, just before the Second World War. In the 1950s and 1960s, it was raced extensively along the Breton coast and became the overall winner of the season multiple times. All owners from 1939 to the present day are known; in 1970, the boat was purchased by a Dutchman, who moved the boat to Cannes and renamed it Mandragore. In 1980, the boat went to a shipyard in La Spezia, Italy, where it underwent major maintenance and was fitted with a new deck. A new sail plan was designed by the legendary Swiss Philippe Durr. This paid off immediately, resulting in, among other things, a third place during the World Series in Cannes. In 1985, the boat was sold to a French, who brought the boat back to Brittany and raced it in many races for many years. In 2015, I acquired the boat from him, brought it to the Netherlands, and renamed it Fou. In the winter of 2016–17, the boat was stripped bare at the Kroes & Zn shipyard in Kampen, and it turned out, as also reported by tradition, that the hull was still entirely original and in excellent condition, almost 80 years after its construction. For extra rigidity, the hull was splined and glued with mahogany from deck to keel beam and fitted with 4 ring frames. The rigging was reinforced, and she received new teak floorboards. In the ’16 and ’17 seasons, she proved to be ‘by far’ the fastest 6-meter boat in the Netherlands; unfortunately, we lost our mast during the final races of ’17. This winter, an even lighter custom-made aluminum mast was built by van der Neut in Zeeland and fitted with a new set of Quantum sails. Le Fou was drawn and designed by Francois Camatte, who was self-taught and drew based on intuition and aesthetics. His boats invariably sat exactly on the waterline and proved to be super fast, so he eventually became a specialist in the 6-meter class. There are as many as sixty 6-meter boats from his hand. Le Fou features a strict V-shape in the bow, transitioning into a deep S-shape in the midship and then back into an elongated straight line in the stern, transitioning into a small, straight transom.
